Employee Spotlight: Rabid Raccoon Survivor, Larry Hay

Meet Board of Directors Member, Larry Hay!

1. What’s your job title at ServiceCore?

I am on the Board of Directors, and an all-around nice guy.

2. Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Where you’re from: Born in Savannah, GA.

Where you went to school: The University of Georgia, home of the greatest football team in the universe! … Go DAWGS!

Anything about your family, pets, etc:  Two daughters, one son and one grandson. Married to the love of my life. My wife and I are pet-free.

3. What brought you to Colorado?

Every single person in my extended family has lived in the “low country” (the area between Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC) for 240 years. I and one cousin in Seattle are the only ones that have ever moved away. I came to Colorado 20 years ago as Chief Operating Officer for Einstein’s Bagels and never left.

4. Favorite thing about Colorado?

Love the weather, and this is where I met my wife; so got that goin for me. Also, everything here is the complete opposite from where I grew up – mountains vs. ocean; dry air vs 90% humidity; no bugs vs. bugs everywhere; summers are nice vs. an oven; but the cars are always dirty…

5. What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?

I am known as “PUMA” on the tennis courts, so named for my lightening speed and cat-like reflexes. I called “Divot” on my golf league for dissimilar reasons. My wife is a former professional ballroom dancer, so we like to ‘cut the rug’ when we can.

6. What other hobbies do you enjoy?

I am one of only about 500 card-carrying Vexillologists on the planet; I collect military antiques; love to make things out of wood and metal; huge history buff; and love college football, where I enjoy watching the Georgia Bulldogs – the greatest football team in the universe.

7. What’s the craziest thing you’ve done?

I was a hippie in college in the 70’s and often went to classes barefoot, wearing jeans and no shirt (wouldn’t want to see that now). It was a crazy time and I don’t remember most of it; but I do sometimes see strange colors and hear a phone ringing somewhere.

8. Fun fact about yourself?

As a teenager, I was once attacked by a rabid raccoon; as a result, I am immune to rabies; so if we are ever attacked by a herd of rabid animals, I’m your guy.

9. Anything you’d like to add?

Been associated with a lot of companies, and I think ServiceCore has something very special going for it.
